Everyone has a different perspective of who God really is. Even so, how do we really know that those perspectives are really who God is?
In general, God is defined as an eternally existant being that exists apart from space and time. This can be understood by, there is a God before anything was formed from nothing and this same God is eternal. Think about it, for something to exist someone has to create it. Which means, there must be Someone who created something out of nothing in the beginning of time.
The Bible states in John 1:1-3 that "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made" Before the world began, there was God. And this God created the heavens and and the earth in the beginning (Genesis 1:1) For God to be able to create everything out of nothing, God must be an all-knowing (omniscience), all-powerful (omnipotence) and all-present (omnipresence) God.
God is also a holy and perfect God. God saw that everything was very good and perfect in His eyes (Genesis 1:31). He has created man in His perfect image so that we can have that everlasting fellowship with Him. However, man sinned and bore the consequences of sin. Just as darkness cannot exists in the presence of light. Sin cannot exists in the presence of a holy God (1 John 1:5). Thus, sin has seperated us from God.
On the other hand, the Bible also says that Jesus Christ is God in John 1:14 that "The Word (which was God) became flesh and made his dwelling among us." Someone perfect has to come to redeem us from our sins so that the original purpose of having a relationship with God can be restored. So who else if it was not God Himself who's holy and perfect (which is also Jesus Christ according to John 1:14) that is able to die for our sins to bring us back to God?
This sounds complicated. Is there any other way of explaining what you just wrote in layman's terms? And do we have to refer to the Bible to know who God is?
ReplyDeleteHi Merlin.
ReplyDeleteWhat Im trying to bring out was God is the creator of everything. And this God that Im referring to is Jesus Christ that came to die for us on the cross for our sins.
There are many ways to know who God is. For example by seeing His creations. We can know that God is a creative and loving God. Another one would be experience. When we experience God in our lives, we will eventually know who God is.
But all in all, it has to be align with the Word of God that is the Bible because many people worship other things that is not of God.
Hi Mei Fong,
ReplyDeleteBefore further comments, an addition to help Merlin - the Bible is the final authoritative book we seek, to find answers.
Mei Fong,
Could you show us in your own words of who God is? Maybe in your experience with God as to encourage and help us to have a glimpse of God in your perspective as God creation..! Thank you.
hi mei fong
ReplyDeletegreat to see your sharing as God being the Creator (the beginner of the world), the Redeemer (given as the Word),a Personal Beings (relate with us)...how about God known not just an Alpha but Omega?
you doing great in your blog for your first term :)
ReplyDeletestill, here's the question, since you have mention so much about God as Creator, who is God to you throughout your experience with Him.....
good job on the blog!
Wonderful writeup on who is God.
ReplyDeleteHi Theophiloas and Galvin.
ReplyDeletePersonally, God to me is love. He is a father to the fatherless. I grew up in a single parent environment. Therefore, God's unfailing love is very real in my life. I feel that Im make complete in His love even though I came from a broken family :)
Hi Poh Kian.
ReplyDeleteYes. I do agree with you that God is not just the Alpha but also the Omega. This is clearly stated in the Revelation 22:13 Of course, if I were to share about who God is, there will never be enough to write about Him. I was just giving a small part of who God is :)
